I'm Keishawna Gilliam, though most know me as Keke. At 41 years old, I’m the youngest of three sisters and have a love for dancing, riding my motorcycle, and spending time with loved ones. My passion for natural hairstyling began when I was seven years old, learning from my mother, Maybelle Gilliam, a licensed cosmetologist. What started with braiding my cabbage patch doll’s hair evolved into a lifelong love for hair and beauty.
During my teenage years, I worked as my mother’s shampoo assistant, spending summers observing her extraordinary talent and care for her clients. Her dedication inspired me to dive deeper into hairstyling, and I soon began styling hair for friends and college athletes. What began as a side hustle quickly grew, as word of my work spread. I came to understand that each client had a story to tell, and I was given the gift of listening, providing support and encouragement through my services. It became clear to me that hairstyling was about more than just looks—it was about connection and empowerment.
At 25, I faced a devastating personal challenge—I began losing my hair. For a hairstylist, this felt like the ultimate blow. Despite visiting doctors and specialists, I found no answers. However, this struggle birthed something powerful: The Esther Elixir. I developed an all-natural hair growth solution to assist women like me in the spirit of Queen Esther from the Bible, who turned her hardships into victories. I realized, had I not been suffering from hair loss personally, I wouldn't have thought to come up with this product. Through Your Crown My Canvas, I aim not only to help women regrow their hair, but also to remind them of their inherent strength and beauty, turning pain into purpose.
